Indo-China Agriculture Tangerines
We grow two different varieties of tangerine (Citrus reticulata) to meet our customers’ needs. First is the large tangerine (Citrus noblis) and the other is the smaller (Citrus reticulate) variety of tangerine.
Tangerine grows very well on our farm perhaps because it is considered native to South-East Asia and also matches well with our soil type and pH levels.
We procured our cultivar from farms along the Mekong river in Vietnam that specialized in growing tangerine. Unfortunately, a few years after we procured our trees, our suppliers could no longer supply further trees due to saltwater intrusion which destroyed their farms.
Tangerine trees grow to 4.5 meters tall with a canopy radius of 2 meters.
We intercrop our tangerines and other citrus with guava based on studies that show that they prevent any potential insect vectors carrying HLB disease.
We use a combination of organic fertilizers, vitamins, organic fungicide, amino acids, flowering, and fruiting formulas to ensure the best harvest of fruit with the perfect combination of sweet tartness.
Not just a great taste
Much like their citrus cousin the orange, tangerines contain a high amount of Vitamin C as well as a fair amount of Vitamin A, Beta Carotene, Vitamin B-6, and Folate.
Tangerines also contain a fair amount of Potassium and dietary fiber. For another tasty benefit, tangerines are relatively low in carbohydrates when compared to other fruits and have a low glycemic index (GI) value of 47 despite their sweetness.
Tangerines contain a relatively large variety and amount of phytonutrients, which can protect cells from damage, reduce inflammation, and lower the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Tangerines contain flavonoids, phenolics, and essential oils which confer anti-oxidative properties. Oxidative stress causes inflammation which is associated with disorders such as cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular problems, diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis.
Fruits such as tangerines are high in vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant. Antioxidants are believed to block cell damage caused in the body by free radicals.
